FIGHT THE POWER: 7 Rebellious Must-Plays for the Radical and the Righteous

Whether you’re fighting corrupted states or just bad bosses, rebellion is baked into the DNA of great media.

We don’t do neutrality here. Never have. And if ever there was a moment to stand up and embrace your inner Toxic Girl, we have come upon it. So we built you a triple-threat list: anime, games, and graphic novels that remind you how to rage right.

Let the games begin:

Akudama Drive

Cyberpunk chaos. Every character looks like they walked out of a Supreme drop and right into a bullet storm.

Neo Cab

A queer ride-share dystopia sim where you’re driving through the ashes of late capitalism. Who’s in the backseat says everything.

Assorted Crisis Events (Image Comics)

No notes. It’s still the most human sci-fi epic out there. All killer, no filler.

Heaven Will Be Mine

BAD ASS girls in mechs who weaponize queerness like a precision strike. It’s messy, poetic, and trans as hell.

Eden of the East

Feels like Homeland met with the New Tokyo radicals from GITS with ADHD and a soundbar.

Chainsaw Man

Because being a devil hunter is just another way to quit your job; and lately I think we’ve all felt like we’ve got a 90cc chainsaw for arms.

Night in the Woods

A side-scrolling elegy to rustbelt America. The revolution might not be televised, but found in a coffee shop for some very sad animals. We all deserve this clarity.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Will any of this help with our current moment? Yes and no. For us, Hyperlific has and will always be a community for the rebellious and the curious- for the radically inclusive; and the reality is, that takes work- boots on the ground and in the streets demonstrating our visibility and our strength and our majority. Organizing isn’t social-posting your outrage, or signaling your solidarity with a movie-night but while it doesn’t come from playing a video game, Organizing IS about listening to what your community needs, hearing their issues, and showing up for them to get it done. Will this media change the conversation? Perhaps not. But it can be the gateway to find your community- to bring them joy and lift them up and get friends together and talk about action while being inspired by some of the best.

Entertainment, at its core, is a connective revolution between an artist and an audience.

Read them. Play them. Wear the hoodie, then  start the fire.
